Tenant asked to pay back rent over three months

This is a different tenant from my other post. Her hours were cut at work and she is about $900 behind. She asked if she can pay it back over three months. She has been with me a while and I'd like to help, but I want to do it the right way. How do you handle this?

    We agree to these, but always in writing, signed by both people. Write down the amount and date of each extra payment. Make it clear that regular rent is still due on time in addition to the extra payments. Also write down what happens if she misses one, for example that the plan ends and the full balance is due.

    If she can't pay regular rent plus a little extra each month, the plan probably won't work.

    I wouldn't go longer than three months.

    Before you sign anything, check whether your county has a rental assistance program. Most counties in PA have an agency that helps tenants who lost income. Two of my tenants had their full back rent paid at once that way.
