I close on my first rental soon. Someone mentioned I might need a rental license. Is that a state thing or a local thing?

Ask whether they need anything before a new tenant moves in, not just once a year. That's the one people miss.

It's local in PA. A lot of boroughs, townships and cities require you to register rentals, and some require an inspection before a new tenant moves in. Call the borough or township office where the property is.

Thanks. The property is in a small borough. I'll call on Monday.

State College requires a rental permit and inspections. Most college towns do.
