LandlordPro vs RocketRent: Which is Right for You?
What RocketRent does well
The free tier is genuinely free and needs no card: rent collection, a tenant portal, document storage, contact management and tenant messaging at $0/month. Rent collection connects to the landlord's own Stripe account, so money moves direct rather than sitting with an intermediary. Premium at $27/month adds official state landlord forms and property marketing. It is a small, legible product with very little to learn.
Where RocketRent fits:
- Landlords with a handful of units who only want rent to arrive on time
- Anyone who prefers money moving through their own Stripe account
- Landlords who want a tenant portal without learning a platform
What RocketRent does not do yet
The gaps are wide, and they are the parts of the job that cost money when they go wrong:
- No tenant screening. No credit, criminal or eviction history, and no adverse-action letters.
- No legal notices and no eviction tooling.
- No property inspections.
- No AI receipt scanning, and expense handling is basic categorization with no Schedule E export documented.
- No bank feed or reconciliation beyond Stripe payment collection.
- No independent review record — nothing on G2, Capterra or Trustpilot to check the vendor's claims against.

Switching from RocketRent to LandlordPro
Moving landlord software feels risky mostly because nobody explains the order of operations. Here it is, plainly.
1. Export from RocketRent. RocketRent stores tenant and document records in its portal; export what it offers and download stored documents individually before closing the account.
2. Import properties and units first. Properties and units first, then tenants and leases. There is not much history to bring, which makes this one of the easier moves in this category. The import wizard accepts CSV for properties, units, tenants and leases.
3. Re-authorize rent payments. No platform can hand an ACH authorization to another one — that agreement is between your tenant, their bank and the processor. Tenants re-enroll once from the portal, and Venmo and Zelle need nothing set up at all.
4. Run one month in parallel. Keep the old account alive through one full rent cycle and check both against your bank statement. When they agree, cancel. This costs one month's subscription and removes essentially all of the risk.
What won't come across. Payment history held in your Stripe account stays in Stripe — which is arguably the point of RocketRent's design. Keep the Stripe export as your archive.
What you actually get
Comparison tables flatten everything into checkmarks. These are the parts landlords actually notice in the first month, in the order they tend to notice them:
- Applications that pre-screen on your criteria. You set the qualifications. Applicants come back ranked against them, with weak matches collapsed out of the way so you're reading the ones worth reading.
- Leases in minutes, customizable, e-signed. A wizard walks the terms, the lease generates against your state's template, and it goes out for signature without leaving the app.
- AI receipt scanning with your phone as the scanner. Photograph the receipt, the data comes off it, and it files itself onto the Schedule E line your tax preparer is going to ask for. This is the one that saves the most hours.
- Guided photo walkthroughs. Your phone becomes the move-in and move-out condition record — a guided sequence, timestamped, so a deposit dispute is a document instead of an argument.
- A rent roll that handles the awkward months. Payments, late payments, partial payments, credits and discounts, mid-month turnover with two tenants in one unit — the cases that break a spreadsheet.
- Power tools on the side. Deal analyzer, cash flow tool, and an early payoff calculator, for the next property rather than the ones you already own.
The product is built and run by one person who self-manages 13 units — three duplexes, a triplex and a quad. Every feature above exists because the alternative was doing it by hand on a Saturday.
Frequently asked questions
What does RocketRent not do that LandlordPro does?
Tenant screening, legal notices, eviction tooling, property inspections, AI receipt scanning, bank reconciliation and a year-end tax package. RocketRent is a rent collection tool with a tenant portal; that is what it sets out to be.
Is RocketRent free?
The base tier is free with no card required, and Premium is $27 a month for state forms and property marketing. LandlordPro is free up to 4 units and $19 a month after that, with screening, notices and the tax package included as you move up.
Is RocketRent safe to use?
We have no basis to say either way, and we will not pretend otherwise: as of September 2026 we could not find independent reviews on G2, Capterra, Reddit or Trustpilot. Everything published about it comes from the vendor. That is normal for a young product — just know that is what you are buying.
Does RocketRent screen tenants?
No. There is no credit, criminal or eviction history check and no adverse-action letter, which is the document that keeps a denial defensible under the FCRA.
